Stinking Catfish Curry / Shingi / Tangra Maacher Patla Jhol

Its been six months since I have started my blog.  And thanks to all my readers for a fairly encouraging response but the discouraging part is that my eye specialist have warned me not to spend time on laptops , mobiles and television sets for more than half an hour at a stretch. For the last two months I was under complete medication , and now a little relief to my eyes; hopefully I do not have to undergo any surgery right now but that only time will say.So this is reason for not having been able to make any update on my blog for the last two months and also from now on will not be able to make updates on a regular basis. SORRY and also hoping that you will understand my situation.

Coming back to today's post , will show you the recipe of Tangra maccher patla jhol/ Catfish curry . To make this simple recipe all you need is :

preparation time : 5 mins
cooking time : 25 mins
servings : 4

catfish : 300gms
black onion seeds/ nigella : 1 teaspoon
onion : 2 medium
potato : 2 medium
green chilli : as per taste
turmeric powder : 1 teaspoon
red chilli powder : 1 teaspoon
a handful of coriander leaves
dry red chilli : 1
oil : 2 tablespoons
water : 2 cups
salt to taste

preparation :

1. Heat oil in a kadai / pan

2. once oil is hot , add nigella seeds/ kalon jeera and dried red chilli, let them splutter. Then quickly add green chilli , onion and salt.

3. At this stage , add potato , red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix well.

4. Add water and bring it to boil.

5. Carefully slide the fish pieces into it.

6. Finally , garnish with coriander leaves.

7. Serve with piping hot rice.

P.S. : Marinate fish with turmeric powder , red chilli powder and a pinch of salt. Fry the fish pieces carefully and keep aside before finally adding them into the curry. But you may totally ignore this step if you like a raw smell.

" Wishing all my readers a very happy diwali "
