Indian Flat Bread / Alu Parantha

Hello , all my dear friends

Today I will be sharing one of my all time favourite recipe and this is one such recipe that can be had for breakfast , lunch and for dinner as well. Any guesses ?? Ya , you kind of guessed it right , Its alu parantha. It is an ideal breakfast mainly for the people from northern India . They love their alu parantha for breakfast. Even the rest of india loves it too. So , yesterday when I was preparing this recipe for dinner I thought why not share this recipe with you all. And today after wrapping up all my other household stuff , the first thing I decided to do was to post this recipe. Hope you enjoy reading this post and more importantly , preparing it.

Preparation time : 30 mins
Cooking time : depends on the no. of paranthas / flat breads you are going to cook
Servings : 2

      Ingredients :

      For making the dough :

  • all purpose flour : 4 small cups
  • warm water : 1 and half cup
  • clarified butter / ghee : 1tablespoon
  • a pinch of salt

       For the stuffing :

  • potato : 6
  • onion : 2
  • green chilli : 4 to 6
  • ghee / oil : 1 teaspoon
  • a pinch of red chilli powder powder ( optional )
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 garam masala powder
  • handful of chopped cilantro / coriander leaves
  • salt to taste

How to prepare the dough :
  • take a large utensil and pour the flour in it and add water, ghee / claified butter and salt in it as mentioned above. Be careful while adding water, do not add too much at once.

  • continue kneading it until it turns out into a fine smooth dough.

  • you can also make use of your food processor ( if any ) for kneading the dough. I prefer doing it with my hand.

How to make the stuffing :
  • wash and peel the potatoes
  • boil them
  • mash the potatoes along with all other ingredients for stuffing as mentioned above and keep aside.

How to prepare flat bread :
  • make round balls out of the dough.

  • now place a ball ( made out of the dough ) on a flat surface and roll it with a rolling pin , I obviously did the same with a belan and chakla. Repeat the process for the rest of the dough balls you have
    made.

  • at this stage put a moderate amount of bolied potato stuffing at the centre of the rolled out dough and close the stuffing with the edges of the dough as shown in the pic

  • repeat the process for the rest of the rolled out dough.
  • now once again but this time carefully roll out the dough not letting the stuffing splash out and once done repeat the process for the rest of it.

  • finally , in a frying pan heat oil / ghee .

  • once hot carefully place one by one the stuffed rolled out dough and fry on both sides.

  • and your alu parantha is ready to be served with either butter / raita / curd.

  • Do let me know if you liked reading my post.
